What are the Causes & Effects?
Short Term
There were many
short term causes of the French Revolution, but there only 3 main short term
causes. The first one is the irresponsibility of Louis XIV. The second one
being that there was a large gap in wealth between rich and poor and the
development of a middle class which lacked political power. The last short term
cause which is depression in the 1789, harvesting was bad in 1787 to
1788 which caused shortages of food, soaring food prices, unemployment in
Paris, and over-population in Paris France.
Long Term
As well as there being short term causes, there
were also many long term causes that caused the French Revolution. There are 3
main short term causes, the first one is the way France was governed,
particularly the taxation system. Good government benefits greatly from an
efficient taxation system that provides it with an adequate income, which
France did not have. The taxation system in France was both chaotic and
inefficient. The second one is the carefully ordered yet deeply divided
structure of French society and the last is the gradual spread of ideas which
started to challenge this structure.
